Scapegoat Theatre Collective Presents:
Nine Parts of Desire
Scapegoat Theatre Collective presents a staged reading of Heather Raffo's play, 9 Parts of Desire on Friday, April 25, at 7:30pm at the Asheville Arts Center on Merrimon Ave. This beautifully crafted, incredibly moving narrative delves into the stories of 9 Iraqi women during wartime. By turning this one-woman show into a staged reading featuring nine local actors, director Taryn Strauss hopes to bring these women's stories home.
This is an event to raise awareness of how war and cultural violence affects women, in observance of National Sexual Assault Awareness month. The dramatic staged reading will feature a wine and cheese reception and raffle with speakers at 7:30, and the show will begin at 8:30pm. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to OUR VOICE, the rape crisis center, serving over 6,000 Buncombe County residents annually through counseling and prevention.
Tickets will be sold at the door for $20.00 per person. There will be no tickets sold in advance. Box Office opens at 6:30pm at the Asheville Arts Center on Friday, April 25th.

References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot
by Jose Rivera
Longing and lust prevail in the hot desert as the bewitching Gabriela awaits the return of her soldier from overseas. In a world where the talking moon plays the violin, the figurative is transformed into the literal. Animal instinct battles social construct in this theatrical work of art.
Asheville 's most exciting theatre group is proud to announce its new play, References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot by Jose Rivera. This play is part of the NC Stage Catalyst Series.
In References , longing and lust prevail in the hot desert as the bewitching Gabriela awaits the return of her soldier from overseas. In a world where the talking moon descends from the heavens, the figurative is transformed into the literal. Rivera uses surreal imagery to explore the connections among love, lust and war in this enthralling tale.
Once again, Scapegoat is breaking new ground in the local theatre scene by staging this difficult and exciting play.

The Scapegoat Theatre Collective's 2007 Season will open, appropriately just in time for baseball season, with the Tony Award Winning Take Me Out, by Richard Greenberg, a baseball comedy/drama which takes on the difficult issue of homophobia between men.
The play's main character, Darren Lemming, is a popular mixed-race baseball player at the peak of his career when he decides to come out; an announcement met with varying responses during the course of the season.
Much of the play is set in a baseball locker room, and features a diverse all-male cast; it explores themes of homophobia, racism, class and masculinity. TAKE ME OUT has realistic references in that Glenn Burke (Dodgers) was out to teammates and team owners in the 1970's and Billy Bean (Padres)came out in 1999 after retiring from eight seasons of playing in Major League Baseball, however at the time of the writing of this play no major-league baseball player had ever come out to
the public during his career. This show explores what happens when America's favorite pasttime becomes a true reflection of our country's diversity, and how this affects the boys who are faced with that all important question, "which team do you bat for?"
Take Me Out benefits local Asheville non-profit organization and community center, I-RISE. I-RISE aims to be the heart from which Asheville's LGBTQ community can grow, by creating a central location that will be a forum for communication and education, that will offer essential community services, and that will provide a safe venue for socialization and entertainment.
